Writing a Novel

24 September to 23 October 2021

Opening: 2.00pm, Saturday 25 September 2021

EXHIBITION DESCRIPTION

Writing a Novel is a collection of photographic images which could, at first glance, be seen as quite different images. It began when a Japanese photographer friend of Glen O’Malley commented that he took photographs ‘of many different things’. Glen does not see this, commenting that ‘I see a common thread in all my work as finding a meeting point between the ‘real’ and the ‘surreal’. I set about finding the links between, in many cases, previously exhibited work, and arranging them into a new story, open for the viewer’s interpretation. Documentary work at times sits beside more theatrical work’.

Glen O’Malley is a long time resident of Far North Queensland, first exhibited in Brisbane in 1975, making him Queensland’s longest exhibiting photographer. Since then he has had over forty solo exhibitions, and shown in over 175 group exhibitions, in Australia and internationally.

He is represented in many collections including the Australian National Gallery, the Queensland Art Gallery, the State Library of Queensland and Parliament House, Canberra.
